ஆத்தூர் அருகே உள்ள தலைவாசலை அடுத்த சிறுவாச்சூர் கிராமத்தை சேர்ந்தவர் பிரபாகரன் (வயது 30). இவர் பெரம்பலூர் மாவட்ட ஆயுதப்படை போலீஸ்காரராக பணிபுரிந்து வந்தார். இவருக்கு மனைவி மற்றும் 2 குழந்தைகள் உள்ளனர்.
இந்தநிலையில் தலைவாசல் பகுதியை சேர்ந்த 17 வயது அரசு பள்ளி மாணவியின் பெற்றோர் ஆத்தூர் போலீஸ் நிலையத்தில் பிரபாகரன் மீது பரபரப்பு புகார் மனு அளித்தனர். அதில் தங்களது மகளான பிளஸ்-1 மாணவியை பிரபாகரன் ஆசை வார்த்தை கூறி பாலியல் பலாத்காரம் செய்ததாகவும், அதனால் தற்போது மாணவி 7 மாத கர்ப்பமாக உள்ளதாகவும் தெரிவித்திருந்தனர்.

இந்த புகார் குறித்து மாணவியிடம் போலீசார் விசாரணை நடத்தினர். அப்போது பிரபாகரன் ஆசை வார்த்தை கூறி மாணவியை கர்ப்பமாக்கியது தெரியவந்தது. மேலும் பலமுறை மாணவியை மிரட்டி பலாத்காரம் செய்து வந்ததும் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டது. இதையடுத்து பிரபாகரன் மீது போக்சோ சட்டத்தின் கீழ் வழக்குப்பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டது. இந்தநிலையில் விசாரணை நடத்துவதற்காக பிரபாகரனை, ஆத்தூர் போலீஸ் நிலையத்துக்கு போலீசார் அழைத்து வந்தனர். அப்போது பிரபாகரன் போலீஸ் நிலையத்தில் இருந்து தப்பி ஓடி தலைமறைவாகினார். அவரை போலீசார் தீவிரமாக தேடி வந்தனர்.

மேலும் ஆத்தூர் துணை போலீஸ் சூப்பிரண்டு நாகராஜன், அனைத்து மகளிர் போலீஸ் நிலைய இன்ஸ்பெக்டர் தமிழரசி ஆகியோர் தலைமையில் பிரபாகரனை பிடிக்க 3 தனிப்படைகள் அமைக்கப்பட்டன. தனிப்படை போலீசாரின் தீவிர விசாரணையில் பிரபாகரன் கள்ளக்குறிச்சி மாவட்டம் சின்னசேலம் தாலுகா இந்திலி கிராமத்தில் பதுங்கி இருப்பது தெரியவந்தது. இதையடுத்து நேற்று அவரை போலீசார் அதிரடியாக கைது செய்தனர். பின்னர் ஆத்தூர் குற்றவியல் நீதிமன்றத்தில் ஆஜர்படுத்தி, சேலம் சிறையில் அடைத்தனர்.
